Family Weekend

Named top bed and breakfast site by Yahoo! Internet Life
Bed and Breakfast Directory

Whether entering through the cast iron fence to the front door or by way of the trellised back courtyard, guests cannot help but be enveloped by the special warmth of this 1845 home built by one of Kenyon College’s master carpenters.

Ideally located just across Wiggin Street from the main campus of Kenyon College, The Gambier House has been lovingly restored and decorated. It features a formal parlor, family room, fireplaces, antiques, hidden staircases as well as five bedrooms and an attached suite. Enjoy the tranquility of the weeping cherry courtyard or watch the world go by on a front porch rocker.

The gracefully elegant mixture of Victorian and Country charm is an invitation to relax, take a deep breath and enjoy all that surrounds you.

No matter the season or the reason, The Gambier House is a welcome retreat and center of operations for all your Knox County or Kenyon College needs.

The Gambier House has central air and heat and is a non-smoking bed and breakfast.

ATTENTION KENYON PARENTS AND ALUMS:

As of January 1st, we will be accepting lottery entries for Family Weekend 2010 through July 31st.  This is the ONLY way to get a room for this important weekend.  Graduation 2011 is booked at this time.

Graduation weekend rooms are secured ONLY by way of a lottery that requires previous stays. Don't wait until Senior year to experience the charm of The Gambier House and get in on this special lottery.

Reunion 2011 is sold out but we will take a waiting list just in case.

Summer 2010

GREETINGS and welcome to The Gambier House website.   Kenyon’s graduation and reunion weekends are behind us, which means the lazy days of summer are here.    We hop you might stop by to take advantage of the many summertime escapes all around us.

The Kokosing Gap Trail and the Kokosing Scenic River offer many pedal and paddle possibilities.  The House is just up the hill from access points to both. Close to Mt. Vernon and Amish country, we are a great stopping off point for Apple Valley Lake or Mohican State Park.

For the foragers, Gambier is in the heart of summer fruit territory.  Pick your own strawberries, blueberries, peaches, apples, and cherries are within a short drive.  Not to mention the bounty of the Mt. Vernon Farmer’s Market every Saturday at the Town Square.  A short 20-minute drive takes you to a number of farm stands near Utica.  The highlight of this trip would be a stop at the Velvet Ice Cream Factory.

So come out and enjoy all the Gambier has to offer this summer: barbershoppers, mimes, swim camps, Kenyon Review writers and much more. The Village of Gambier’s 4th of July parade is not to be missed: where else are there more people in the parade than along the street watching!  We with kids or dogs do double duty, marching AND watching.  Then there is the Knox County Fair in Mt. Vernon at the end of July and Dan Emmett Days in early August.

Have a great summer and perhaps you’ll join us rocking on the porch, watching the world go by.  This sleepy getaway from the everyday is just waiting for you.
